President James H. Bowen has nineteen patents, that can be viewed from the "Patents" button off the main page. Four mechanical patents for an imprinter mechanism, lawn trimmer and fuel shut-off system valve, fourteen electronic patents for a telephone system for homes or home/offices, notebook computers, PC and IR keyboards and others in the pipline, covering a multitude of disciplines. This inventive background helps PEM offer its customers innovative solutions to simple and complex opportunities.
I experiencd over ten years in manufacturing, ending in 1974 as manager of methods engineering. This position was responsible for tools, jigs and fixture design and the methods in which all products were manufactured and assembled. The products were imprinters and scanners. Some of the customers were Texaco (55,000 imprinters), ARCO (20,000 imprinters), American Express and Sears Roebuck & Co. (??K imprinters). Thoroughly familiar with placing tools with China and pros and cons of parts that should be placed and and should not.
I then experienced over ten years in engineering before starting
PEM in 1986. Three years at DYMO in product engineering, four years a chief
mechanical engineer and four years as director of engineering of a high
tech
electronics firm in Reston, VA. Being director of engineering and contracting
with outside vendors gave me the appreciation of what is expected when
working as a vendor for my customers. I know own an electronics firm making
industrial keyboards and industrial computers and related products. I do
all of the mechanical, optical, software and electronic design. Thoroughly
familiar with PIC Micros 16c74A, 17c762, 18f4550, 18f8620 and 18f8622...
including doing the analog and digital circuitry, and the assembly code
for all of the products.. including for example DSP to separate sunlight
from IR detectors, and writing the synchronous software UARTs for PS2 keyboard
and mouse communications with PC's. Also owning a surface mount assembly
line, thoroughly familiar with MyData pick and place machines, Vitronics
reflow oven, MPM screen printers, and ESD control.
This lengthy experience in all phases of product engineering and manufacturing leads to engineering products that are properly styled, properly engineered and can be manufactured at the lowest cost for markups to maximize a customers profit.
Contracting with PEM assures the customer that all phases or any phase of the project can be developed from concept through design and prototype. This assurance to the customer shows that their product will be properly integreted with the correct balance of all the disciplines needed to make it a successful product with over 35 years of solid experience ........ Stories
A large printer manufacturer ask PEM and two other engineering firms to quote on a complex printer mechanism that had never been done. The other two engineering firms N/Q'ed, I gave the manufacturer two patentable solutions, one electronic and one mechanical.
A large mag tape storage rack manufacturer ask me to increase their rack capacity by only 20%. In one week I conceived a rack that gave them 300% more capacity in the same volume.
That's the difference between a conventional engineering solution and a totally new inventive engineering solution. And remember, everything under one roof, from engineering to prototyping, no finger pointing, no excuses. I don't just hand you pretty drawings and promises, I give you a finished product on time, to spec. and to target.
